Kynlee's First Few Days of Childcare.

As you can tell from this post, I wasn't too thrilled to take Kynlee to childcare.

I've been watching her myself all day every day except for class since she was born, and I hated the thought of handing her over to a group of strangers in a strange place.

Kynlee is a very fussy baby sometimes, and I was afraid that the providers would say she was too fussy for them. I know you're thinking that I shouldn't be worried about that because she is a baby and babies cry, and they are used to that. But the infant room isn't really a "room" it's just a corner sectioned off by a book shelf and a doggy door (I know sounds awesome right? Remember this was our third choice).

They said she was a little fussy the first day, but I expected that with a new place, and not being used to eating from bottles all day, so I shrugged it off. We kept her home the next day because we were snowed in and she was a happy baby for most of the day. Then comes the third day....

We dropped her off the next morning and everything seemed fine. Hubs and I decided to go to lunch because it's not often we get to eat alone. Right after we got our food, my phone started ringing, and I saw it was from the daycare...my heart kinda flipped because I didn't know why they would be calling me.

I heard Kynlee screaming in the background, and the woman over the phone said she has been crying like this for a while, and she had a temperature of 100.5. They also said that she had been pulling at her ears, and that they were sensitive to the touch. I was one guilty and sad momma.

I picked her up and we were at the doctor 30 minutes later. The doctor didn't find anything bad, just the beginnings of an ear infection, probably from drinking out of bottles. But you have to understand, Kynlee was pissed! I was expecting something seriously wrong. Doc said she could just be really in-tune with her body, and not like when anything is wrong with it.  She seemed to know what she was talking about, so we got some antibiotics and ear drops and headed home.

As soon as we walked in the door Kynlee was laughing and smiling like nothing was wrong. We kept her home today just to monitor and see how she was feeling. While she does seem to be fussier than normal at times, her ears don't seem to be bothering her to the extent of crying her eyes out.

We're taking her back tomorrow, but I really hope all this fussiness isn't because she is having a hard time adjusting to being away from home.

She might not be staying at this daycare too long though, because we received some awesome news today. Our top choice for childcare is the Appalachian State Child Development center, it's the best place in Boone, they have 5 stars, and they cater to students. This was the first place we put our name on a waiting list (last December), and last week they told us we wouldn't have a spot until March, but the director e-mailed me tonight and said they have a spot opening up at the beginning of next semester! This made me one happy momma!

We're going to take Kynlee back to daycare tomorrow for what might be her last day there, since we really don't need childcare over break. Hopefully she will have a better day.

K's first day away from mommy and daddy...

I wanted to share with everyone that Kynlee survived her first day of childcare!

Those of you that live in Boone know that it's been a blizzard here, so I was worried about getting her there this morning. I was hoping classes would be cancelled so we wouldn't have to worry about it. I really didn't want to get her out in this snow, but we had to get her there by 10.

I absolutely did not want to hand her over to the woman in the infant room. I kept reassuring her that I would be back, and I was so sorry I had to leave (she didn't seem to care).

I was sure when we went to pick her up that the people who worked there would be begging us to take her back. You see, Kynlee is a rather fussy baby, and I didn't expect child care to put a stop to that, but we walked in and she was just chillin in a swing. The woman did say she was a little fussy that day, and I kept apologizing, but I have to remind myself that these are babies, they will be fussy, and the providers must be used to it.

Over all, I have to say her first day seemed successful, I hope the rest of the week continues to go smoothly.

Sugar and Spice...not so nice!

So Baby K starts child care on Monday. I know I should be ecstatic that we finally got into a facility, but I am absolutely dreading it!

First of all, this place was our third choice, so that basically means it's the worst child care facility in the world.

The hubs and I went and took a tour of the facility when we turned our paper work in on Thursday. Before we walked in, Corey said "just remember, before you jump to conclusions, it's an old building." Like that was supposed to make me feel better about the sign barely hanging on the wall, the door halfway off its hinges, and the poster that ever so nicely said "beware."

I opened the door to an overwhelming smell of laundry gone sour, and poopy diapers. When I shook the hand of the director, I was suddenly afraid for my life at the sight of her claws and fangs.

{Professor Umbridge...scary!}

On our tour, we encountered many snotty noses, and kids running around infecting each other with their germs. I saw kids playing with sharp objects, and a dead rat in the corner.

I won't even mention the filth I encountered in the infant room. Or the ex-convict that was the infant care provider.

By the time we left I was in tears. How is my daughter supposed to be able to survive this excuse for a child care center.

Okay, so maybe I am exaggerating just a little bit. But I really am dreading taking her on Monday. I am going to be a hot mess. If I could, I would keep her home with me all day, but if I want to graduate, this is my only option.

I hate that when she is upset, mommy won't be able to soothe her the way she likes, and her attention will be split among three other babies.  I hate that she is going to get sick. There is no way around it, it will happen, and I will feel guilty.

Even though this was our third choice, they are obviously a good choice. It's a four-star facility that has been open for 16 years. I still have my eyes set on the best though, so she will stay there until we get a spot at ASU Child Development.

Although I will miss her terribly, I'm sure I will get used to it. I am looking forward to being able to go to the back to the gym though.

{We miss you Jessica! I wish you could watch her all the time!}

Wish me and baby K luck for Monday, I am definitely going to need it.
